"i wear my hart on my shell"

o' bow-legged tortoise, we have so much in common!  colored pencil on butcher paper.

wallpaper for lovers

another example of my love of hart - or at least the idea of it.   vaguely victorian.  very valentine's day.  kind of wallpaper.   i am a thirteen year-old girl (4 EVA!).

party machine (color vs. b&w)

i imagine that if there were such a thing as a party machine (AKA a machine that makes parties), it would look something like this. colorful in december and black & white in november.  wheee!!!

a hard nut to crack

i've been thinking of drawing this for a while and just did.  it's a squirrel with a hart shaped acorn.  i say, 'good luck, squirrel!  you can do it!' colored pencil and sharpie on butcher paper.

drawing on dishware

i drew this at work one night when i forgot to bring my notebook - thank goodness for paper plates!  it's supposed to be a mountain goat next to an orchid, but i don't think you'll find either variety roaming around the earth.  which is fine by me.  colored pencil and sharpie.

orange, brown, green

another between crisis calls creation - this one unexpectedly irish-ish.

more color, more hart

i've been coloring in more doodles lately, which kind of makes me feel like i'm five, which i like.

red, white, and blue

this doodle turned out oddly patriotic, especially since most of it was done in between domestic violence calls (hence the excited 'DV!!!' in the corner).  work is NOT one of my favorite places to doodle, but a lot of doodling happens there just the same.

holding out for you...

my two favorite places to draw are in bed and on my floor.   either way, i love to listen to music when i do it.  this particular sharpie doodle was done in bed, while listening to sharon van etten's heartbreakingly beautiful album, 'because i was in love.'  the words 'holding out for you' were ripped from her song 'holding out.'

neon memory!!!

i doodled this at night with only the light of a headlamp, which may explain the 'interesting' choice of color.   it kind of reminds me of a winter jacket i had in my youth - reversible neon orange on one side and hot pink on the other.   colored pencil on butcher paper - enhanced for coolness.

huzzah! (or personal growth)

this piece was inspired by a lovely lady with a strong affinity for goats, particularly of the pygmy variety.  it represents my first attempt at combining doodling with more realistic line drawing. colored pencil and black sharpie on butcher paper.  huzzah!

which came first?

my fondness for chickens has reached an all-time high, particularly after discovering a coop at the elementary school by my house. this sketch was one of several inspired by those lovely chicks. done with black sharpie and colored pencils on butcher paper.

crooked trees

here's one of the trees i made after finding a scene-a-rama foliage & grasses kit at the texas thrift store. this one is especially crooked and would probably provide a good deal of shade for anyone small enough to lounge under it. it's currently modelled above by grimm the dog.

sharpie color!

i also just got a pack of colored sharpie pens c/o the best store in the world, walgreens. here's one of my first non-black/ red doodles. the possibilities are endless...

notebook o' doodles

i've been doodling the same kind of frenetic designs since as long as i can remember. and beyond, i'm sure. they have covered many a notebook, especially during high school and college - adding a bit of wholesome entertainment to even the most monotonous of lectures. here are some from my most recent notebook, done in much-loved black sharpie pen.

what kind am i?

this is a series of quick colored pencil drawings i did the other night on scraps of butcher paper.  i think it brings up a lot of important questions, especially for confused birds, trees, and hearts.

blog again

i've attempted to start, at least, four blogs* in my memory, but perhaps even more in reality. this, however, will be my first actual entry, if i ever get around to publishing it.  here's hoping that this is the blog that sticks.

it's my intention that this particular incarnation will serve as a sort of transparent cyber filing cabinet - a place to store and share all of my silly, but much loved creations.  please enjoy or don't, but i rather you do.

*note:  this blog was actually one of the many i apparently birthed and forgot, until i stumbled upon it again while attempting to start yet another.  so, i've decided to reduce, reuse, and recycle in honor of our our great cyber forest.  and, thus, begins:  swiss cheese hart.
